This beautiful rock formation is call Rainbow Rock in Death Valley National Park USA. Locally called Artist's Palette is an area on the face of the Black Mountains. The colourful rock provides evidence for one of Death Valley most violently explosive volcanic periods and these colors are caused by the oxidation of different metals through chemical weathering and hydrothermal alteration.
